A full rewire replaces all the electrical cabling, sockets, switches and often the consumer unit in a property, bringing it up to current wiring regulations from the ground up. It's a bigger job than most electrical work we do, but it's usually the right call for older Cornwall properties, particularly those with original wiring from the 1960s or earlier, rubber or fabric-insulated cables, or a history of tripping breakers and flickering lights that fault finding alone won't fix.
Not every property needs a full rewire. If your wiring is generally sound but a few circuits are outdated or you're adding an extension, a partial rewire covering just the affected areas is often enough, and we'll always recommend the less invasive option where it's genuinely appropriate rather than upselling a bigger job. An EICR condition report is usually the starting point. It tells us exactly which circuits need attention and how urgently.
A typical full rewire on an average Cornwall home takes around 5 to 10 days depending on size and access, and involves lifting floorboards and chasing walls to route new cables, which we make good as part of the job. We work room by room where possible to keep at least part of the property usable throughout.
